JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound have racked up a ton of praise both locally and nationally for their soulful live performances and 2009's Beat of Our Own Drum. The band has collaborated with the likes of Syl Johnson, Daniel Bitney (Tortoise), and Nate Evans (the Impressions). Bringing a combination of Chicago soul and post-punk grooves, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound have continued to draw attention in 2010: sharing the Ravinia stage with Poi Dog Pondering; releasing their latest single "get It Together" featuring a Wilco-approved cover of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart"; headlining the first annual Joyous Outdoor Event at Belmont Harbor; and co-headlining the House of Blues before shipping off to play five dates in Spain.
